CM: Putrajaya needs to explain the refusal to disclose water agreement

SHAH ALAM, 20 Oct: The state government wants the federal government to explain their rejection of the application to disclose the contents of the water restructuring agreement to the public.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state government’s request should be fulfilled so that the contents of the agreement can be disclosed because it does not involve the issue of security or is against the people’s interests.

However, he said, so far they have not received any official letter from the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA).

“The ministry needs to give an explanation on why this matter was rejected because the contents of the agreement do not involve the issue of security. It is only a business contract between two parties, why should it be kept a secret?

“If the terms of the agreement truly protect the interests of the consumer and the people, there is no reason why the federal government is adamantly preventing this document from being disclosed,” he told the media after attending the Government Departments Monthly Assembly and the Launch of the National Language Month 2014 today.

Azmin also asked the federal government to state the advice by the Attorney General, Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, regarding the rejection.

“What is his advice (Gani to Maximus)? I want to know.

“He cannot say no. There must be justification to prevent the document from being disclosed,” he said.
