CM: Open libraries until 10pm, increase reading culture

PETALING JAYA, 31 Oct: The reading culture and knowledge among the people should be developed just like the physical development in this richest state.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that therefore, he wants every library in the state to extend their operation hours until 10pm.

He said that this is so that visitors, especially civil servants, can take their children there after working hours.

“The city of Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Subang, are developed municipalities, not only in their physical development, but it is my hope to see that these areas are also developed in pioneering the idea of intellectual discourse.

“If the libraries are open at 9am, closes at 4pm, it does not provide a clear aim and I hope that this will decided so that public libraries extend their hours until 10pm,” said Mohamed Azmin today.

Mohamed Azmin said this in front of 200 MBPJ staff at the Chief Minister’s Fieldwork Programme for the district of Petaling at the MBPJ Auditorium today.

He explained that by reviving the tradition of acquiring knowledge, it guarantees that a community will not drown in the wave of development with various social ills.

Mohamed Azmin said that the state government’s seriousness of improving the tradition of knowledge can be seen in the Selangor Budget 2015 when education is one of the cores in the budget this time.
