CM: Make Unisel an educational institution that supports freedom & justice

KUALA SELANGOR, 8 Nov: The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, is determined to make the University of Selangor (UNISEL) a higher education institution that supports the principle of freedom.

He said that the practice of freedom and justice can lift UNISEL to be in par with the world’s leading universities.

He said that the student world should be coupled with the surrounding reality and not separated, as it is happening now.

“The principles of freedom held by David Starr Jordan, the founder of Stanford University, proves the commitment to make freedom the core of the university’s development which makes Stanford one of the top universities in the world.

“I am certain that UNISEL should make the principles of justice the core of creating a fair community towards the creation of a fair nation.

“Lecturers and students should stimulate debate and discussion in order to uphold truth because the development of an intellectual community can only be achieved when the university practices academic freedom,” he said.

He said this at the 9th Convocation ceremony at the Bestari Jaya campus today.

Commenting further, Mohamed Azmin said that the state government also intends to make UNISEL a scholarly hub and the centre of excellence in research and development (R&D), science development, technology and innovation, as well as publications.

“To accomplish the goals and ambitions, the state government will be directly involved in the translation programme of some international works.

“This translation movement is a scholarly and cultural strategy that the Islamic civilization went through, which sparked The Baghdad Enlightenment in the 10th century,” he added.
