SHAH ALAM, 9 Nov: The state government is now working to find a mechanism to ensure that every child in Selangor has access to education, including those with special needs.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the commitment is in line with the United Nations (UN) constitution which outlines that physically handicapped children should be given care and support, including the right to education.
He said that the desire of equality and justice, however, has failed so far to be reached at the mainstream level.
“Children who are less fortunate do not only require good education, in fact, they want to feel like they are part of school life.
“In all cases, children and young people who are less fortunate want the same opportunities as normal students to acquire qualifications and high-level training to enable them to gain confidence and opportunity to control their futures,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Selangor Kindergarten Day 2014 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, this morning.
The event which was attended by over 5,000 people was also joined by the Exco for Education and Human Capital Development, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, and the Selangor Kindergarten Collaborative Council (MPTS), Dr Supayan Husin.
At the same time, Mohamed Azmin announced that 21,209 participants of the Selangor Children’s Heritage Fund (TAWAS) will be offered the School Entrance scheme next year with an allocation of RM1.1 million.
“These children is the first group that joined TAWAS in 2008. Now they are six years of age and will start school in 2015.
“Each of them will receive RM50 per person in conjunction with the start of school,” he added.
