HULU LANGAT, 15 Nov: The state government will launch the Sel Fund Scheme to provide urban settlers the opportunity to own their own homes.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the initiative will be provided in the form of loans to those who failed to receive bank approval to buy the affordable homes offered.
He said that the Sel Fund Scheme mechanism will be officially announced during the tabling of the Selangor Budget 2015 on November 24.
“This scheme was created as a result of the old administration policy prior to 2008 which supposedly wants zero squatters by offering low-cost units to urban settlers.
“Most of them were offered to stay at temporary and transit homes with the promise that the houses will be completed in two years. Unfortunately, it has been abandoned for many years.
“But when the houses were completed, buyers were unable to receive bank loan approvals because of their age and so on. That is why we have set up this fund,” he said in front of over 200 attendees at the Damai Residency PKNS Selangorku Apartment Buyers’ Celebration at Section 3 Tambahan, Bandar Baru Bangi, today.
Also present was the Exco for Housing Iskandar Abdul Samad; the General Manager of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), Azlan Md Alifiah and the State Financial Officer, Datuk Nordin Sulaiman.
Damai Residency is the first PKNS Selangorku affordable housing project with 124 units offered, including four special units for people with disabilities (PWD).
Prior to this, PKNS also developed affordable housing in other places, including the largest project in Bukit Botak with over 1,400 units.
However, most buyers offered failed to obtain bank loans due to several factors, including advanced age.
The buyers at Bukit Botak are urban settlers who were promised land in the resettlement scheme by the Umno-BN Selangor Government in 1985.
Unfortunately, until 2008, the private developer appointed by Umno-BN failed to do so until the Pakatan Rakyat government was forced to take over the project and give it to PKNS.
