Speaker: Granting the Opposition Leader an official car is not a gimmick

SHAH ALAM, 25 Nov: The Speaker of the Selangor State Assembly (DNS), Hannah Yeoh, today urged all parties to not politicise the granting of a Selangor government official car to the Opposition Leader, Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias, yesterday.

He said that there is no question arising that the Chief Minister only did this as a gimmick because the granting of this facility was agreed by the Assembly Management Select Committee which met on August 25, 2013.

“The committee has seven members and the Assemblyman for Sungai Burung is one of them.

“There is no issue arising that the Chief Minister did this as a gimmick because the decision of the Committee is extended to the State Government Executive Council (MMKN) and approved by the former Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid, and it was announced during the last assembly meeting,” she told reporters at a media conference at the Annex Hall today.

Elaborating, Hannah said that the granting of the facility to the individual is for anyone who holds the post as opposition leader.

“This facility is given so that he can carry out his duties effectively.

“If he successfully carries out his duty of check and balance effectively, of course it would be the people who receive its benefits” she explained.
