SHAH ALAM, 9 Dec: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has been asked to suspend the redevelopment of the Jalan Othman Bus Station in Petaling Jaya Old Town (PJ Old Town) to enable more detailed discussions to take place.
The Bukit Gasing Assemblyman, Rajiv Rishakaran, said that the suspension for at least three months is needed for better discussions with the local community.
He said that the development of the project under the federal government, worth RM4 million, is to make the bus station a business hub and not a bus hub as proposed.
“Based on the development plan issued, there are 18 shops provided for business while only four buses enter this bus station.
“Three out of the four buses are the Rapid KL service, while another is a free community bus by MBPJ,” said Rajiv during a media conference today.
He said that only one Rapid KL bus, U75, from Central Market to Petaling Jaya Old Town makes this bus station the last transit.
“The fact is that this area actually requires a larger car park as it is close to the market,” he said.
He is well informed that a contractor has been appointed by the federal government, however discussions should be carried out so that the one acre of land can be utilised.
“On December 1, the community was called to discuss with MBPJ.
“Based on the outside plan, there are only two bus routes out. Two routes out for buses cannot be called a bus hub,” he said.
