CM: Depreciation in the value of the Ringgit, tourism should be enlivened

SHAH ALAM, 15 Dec: The fall of the value of the Ringgit provides economic opportunities with the high influx of foreign tourists in our country due to the spending power of the group.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the Selangor state government hopes that Selangor is prepared to face challenges, including developing a dynamic strategy.

“What I am saying is that when the value of the Ringgit is down, it is not a good economic climate, but there is also good in it for us to receive support from industries such as tourism.

“We hope for more tourists to come to Selangor and Malaysia, therefore the tourism sector must be ready,” he told the media today.

Selangor will ensure the success of the Visit Selangor Year 2015 with a target of seven million tourists visiting the state.

He said that the state government will also emphasise prudent spending to address the issue, including preventing the issue of leakages and corruption from happening.

“The Auditor-General’s report (on leakages) must be given attention so that there is no repeat of contracts of procurement system,” he said.

Mohamed Azmin said that the matter should be reviewed in keeping with the latest challenge of the depreciation of the country’s currency.
