AMK condemnes the armed attack in Paris

SHAH ALAM, 8 Jan: The Keadilan Youth Movement (AMK) today condemned the actions of the armed group which attacked French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, which took at least 12 lives.

CMK Chief, Nik Nizmi Nik Ahmad, said that the latest attack was deemed to be a cowardly act of terrorism, especially when no religion in the world allowed such behaviour.

He said that all parties should emulate the legacy of the Algerian freedom fighter from the 19th century, Amir Abdul Qadir al-Jazairi, who was respected not only among Muslims but his enemies from all over the world for having good morals.

“That is the true Islam that we must fight for.

“As mentioned by Tariq Ramadan that it is contrary with what was claimed by the murderer at the Charlie Hebdo office, it was not the honour of the Prophet that was being fought for, instead religion, values and principles of Islam were betrayed and tainted.

“I want to express my sympathy to the families and friends of the victims and hope that those responsible will be brought to justice as soon as possible,” he said in a statement.

He said that the international community should not be afraid by the hatred and fanaticism that brings about bad effects, especially to Islam.

A group of armed and hooded gunmen raided the office of a satirical weekly magazine known for lampooning Islam and other religions and killed at least 12 people, including two police officers.

Charlie Hebdo (Charlie Weekly) is well known for courting controversy with satirical attacks on political and religious leaders of all faiths and has published numerous cartoons ridiculing the Prophet Mohammad.

The Reuters report, citing police sources and the French government, said that the incident was suspected to have been carried out by a group of armed Islamist.
