4,000 celebrate the Pongal Festival at the Sri Muda Sri Maha Mariamman Temple

SHAH ALAM, 18 Jan: On the basis of closer ties between races, cultures and religion in this state, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, together with the Pakatan Rakyat leadership, mingled with Hindus in conjunction with the Pongal Festival celebration.

Over 4,000 devotees thronged the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Sri Muda, Shah Alam, yesterday.

Azmin, attended the festival with the Sri Muda Assemblyman, Shuhaimi Shafiei, Bukit Gasing Assemblyman Kasthuri Patto, Klang Member of Parliament G.Manivannan, and the Kota Raja Member of Parliament, Siti Mariah Mahmud.

The Pongal Festival, also referred to as Tamizhar Thirunaal, is a celebration of the harvest season by the Tamil community since 1,000 years ago.
