PETALING JAYA, 20 Jan: The University of Selangor (Unisel) needs to be different from other universities by having the identity of reformation and opportunities for students to express themselves.
The Selangor Economic Advisor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that students should be given enough room to convey ideas of reform.
“We do not have to agree on everything, but we will listen. Nik Nazmi (Nik Ahmad), as the Exco for Education, will personally conduct visits to hear the complaints of students,” said Anwar.
Anwar said that problems related to students and payment of fees are said to be the highest in Unisel, and that it will receive consideration form the state government to be addressed.
“The allocation of RM20 million is to help solve the problems faced by students who failed to sit for their exams at the university,” he said during the “Meet Anwar Selangor” here, recently.
He said that discussions with the Chief Minister will be carried out to find ways to solve the problem of boarding fees, which are considered high.
“Recently, the state government spent RM60 million to repair damages at the main campus and the dormitories.
“Although there is a need to regain the high expenses, it cannot burden the students,” he said.
