DAP proposes Petaling Jaya as the trail location for local authority elections

SHAH ALAM, 4 Feb: It is hoped that the Selangor government will be the trial for the organisation of the local authority elections because it is contained in the manifesto between DAP and the People’s justice Party (PKR).

Serdang Member of Parliament, Dr Ong Kian Ming, said that Petaling Jaya may be chosen as the first area, but the matter has not yet been finalised and it needs to be discussed at the highest level of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders.

“This is not an issue where DAP is insisting to implement or not, but it is a legal issue and Penang has brought the case to the Federal Court but was rejected.

“In Selangor, it is likely that the local authority elections will be held in Petaling Jaya, but is has not yet been determined. We hope that it can be tried,” he said after attending the Malaysian Plural and Democratic Society Forum.

Prior to this, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the issue of local authority elections will be discussed in advance by the PR leadership to ensure that the implementation of the third vote can be the solution to the problems faced.

The proposal to hold local authority elections in Selangor is not something new as Mohamed Azmin had announced it several years ago.

The issue of local authority elections gained attention after PAS and DAP had difference of opinions on the issue when DAP wanted the election to be returned.
