Anwar: “I fight on the outside, and I will fight more in jail”

SHAH ALAM, 5 Feb: The Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has not ruled out the possibility that he will be jailed despite his confidence that he will be acquitted from charges in the Defamation 2 case.

“I have discussed it with my family and party leaders to face any eventuality.

“This means that if I am destined for jail, I will face it, I cannot be threatened, cannot be bought,” he answered reporters at a press conference at the SACC Mall today.

Anwar said that the anticipation of the decision has also affected his family.

“Acceptance. It is not easy for Azizah even though she has been getting stronger lately. She is worried about my situation, but this sacrifice needs to be done.

“My grandchildren asked me why I would be going to jail and this is not easy for me,” he said.

On February 10, the Federal Court will give their decision regarding Anwar’s appeal to overturn the five-year jail sentence in the Defamation 2 case involving his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The sentence was imposed by the Court of Appeal after Anwar was acquitted by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in March last year.

“No one who has reached this age wants or feels the need to be arrested.

“For me, I fight even on the outside, and I will fight more in jail,” he said.
