CM: Anwar remains as the Selangor Economic Advisor

SUBANG JAYA, 11 Feb: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will remain as the Selangor Economic Advisor despite him currently serving a prison sentence of five years.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that Anwar’s absence on the outside is not an obstacle for the Selangor government in seeking his advice and guidance.

“Why not (keep Anwar)? He can convey his messages and views through lawyers and family members, and we certainly need his advice,” he told the media at the Grand Dorsett Hotel in Subang Jaya today.

Anwar was sentenced to five years in prison after the federal Court upheld the conviction against him in the trial of the Defamation II case.

The sentence caused him to be disqualified as a Member of Parliament according to Article 48 (1) (e) of the Federal Constitution that states that a Member of Parliament can be disqualified if he or she is sentenced to jail for over a year or fined more than RM2,000.
