SHAH ALAM, 12 Feb: There is a high possibility that the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, may not seek pardon from the Yang DiPertuan Agong for the five-year jail sentence that was imposed on him on February 10.
Shah Alam Member of Parliament, Khalid Abd Samad, said that the appeal would prove that Anwar was guilty in relation to the charges against him.
“I do not know the details, buy I am certain that he will not apply for it because it conveys the idea that he was guilty,” he said after a press conference at his office today.
Yesterday, a Legal and Constitutional expert, Professor Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, said that a pardon from the Agong may be difficult to be done because for now, it depends on the discretion of the Federal government.
“The pardon would be if the government in Putrajaya wants to do so. So, it is difficult to happen in present circumstances.
“Secondly, Datuk Seri (Anwar) has his dignity. So, I think that this is a political matter that should be resolved by politics. This means that the people have to make the decision after this because we know that the judiciary institution failed to carry out its function in ensuring justice.
“So, the people must go forward so that the judiciary institution can be corrected and return to its original function,” he said.
