Tian Chua: Tuan Guru Nik Aziz was among the planners of the establishment of PKR

PETALING JAYA, 13 Feb: The late Tuan Guru Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is among the two key individuals from PAS behind the plan to establish the People’s Justice Party (PKR).

PKR Vice-President, Tian Chua, said that the late Nik Aziz and the PAS President at the time, the late Datuk Fadhil Noor, worked hard to convince activists to establish a multi-racial party.

He said that they proposed a new platform to fight against Umno-BN at a time when many activists were still in a dilemma to engage in partisan politics or vice versa.

“I myself was not sure at that time but they said otherwise it would be difficult to beat Umno and we need you and not Malays to establish a multi-racial party.

“They thought that it was the time to change the ‘game’. We needed the support of non-Malays to open a new chapter and meet the aspirations to see a true Malaysia,” he said.

He said this at the ‘Anwar Jailed: Future of Malaysian Politics’ forum at the new MalaysiaKini office last night.

Tian Chua admitted that the formation of PKR was not Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s idea, but only asked to use the PAS, PRM or DAP logo during the elections before returning to demonstrate.

In fact, he said, the idea of creating a multi-racial party after Anwar was imprisoned was considered by some friends and strong supporters of Anwar as an absurd idea but it was agreed by the Opposition Leader.
