Fomca: Cancelling the Kidex highway is right, improve transport system

SHAH ALAM, 16 Feb: The announcement of the cancellation of the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX) by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, today received a positive reaction from the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca).

Its Vice President, Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman, said that the move to cancel the project is welcomed; however the main focus should be given to improving the public transport system so that the people can make it the top choice.

“There is no problem if the state government cancels the Kidex, however with conditions that there must be a plan to overcome traffic problems.

“The problem to be addressed is the improvement of the transportation system rather than the construction of a highway that creates the use of more vehicles,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

The most important thing would be government policies to encourage the people to use public transport.

He said that the construction of the Kidex would focus more on increasing the use of vehicles on roads and not solving the current problem of traffic congestion.

“The provision of the free bus in Petaling Jaya is a good step and this policy should be expanded to facilitate the people,” he said.
