SUBANG JAYA, 24 Feb: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) intends to open a second Integrated Biomass Centre for the success of the Green City development effort.
The Yang DiPertua of MPSJ, Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan, said that the initiative is being taken after the success of the Integrated Biomass Centre at Bukit Puchong that was established since 2012.
“So far, we have a Biomass Centre on two acres of land and we intend to open another in a different area.
“This time it will be bigger, involving a five-acre land. We are still in the planning stage as there are several things that need to be worked out,” he told Selangor Kini in an exclusive interview at his office today.
MPSJ took the initiative to develop the Biomass City by selecting Serdang as the pilot project in 2012 through the Green City Action Plan 2030.
The MPSJ Biomass City focuses on nine key areas involving community service, environment, engineering, green city, information resources, safe city, human capital development, municipal services and environmental beautification.
The smart initiative also received support from the Solid Waste Management Department, Putra University Malaysia (UPM) and researchers from the Japan Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry.
In relation to that, Nor Hisham said that the MPSJ Integrated Biomass Centre in Bukit Puchong was developed for the management of waste (food or organic) and producing useful products such as compost heap through recycling.
“Although this Biomass Centre is not done on a large scale like developed countries, MPSJ intends to become the local authority that is the leader in Green City as Malaysia produces 60 percent of waste material from bio-organic materials.
“This initiative is in line with the ‘Vibrant City’ tagline to make MPSJ a sustainable municipality,” he said.
