DASI submits petition for royal pardon

SHAH ALAM, 24 Feb: The family members of the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, submitted an application for a royal pardon from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the conviction of the Defamation II case at Istana Negara today.

Anwar’s second child, Nurul Nuha, confirmed this.

“An appeal for a royal pardon has been submitted.

“The courts may have pronounced a guilty verdict but our father, and we as a family continue to state that he is innocent.

“By virtue of Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, we hope that the Royal institution would in the name of justice based on the entire facts grant an appeal.

“We also would pursue and exhaust all available recourse provided for a citizen in this country,” she said in a statement taken from Malaysia Kini.

Meanwhile, the PKR Communications Director, Fahmi Fadzil, said that the party does not know about this sudden development.

He added that the decision to apply for the pardon is possibly the decision of Anwar’s family.

If Anwar does not apply for the royal pardon, his Permatang Pauh seat will be declared vacant and a by-election must be held.
