CM: Developments should benefit the people

KAJANG, 7 Mar: Development carried out should place emphasis on the interests and welfare of the people rather than being troublesome.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this is because development that have other agendas as motive will only pressure the people.

“We will not tolerate it if development does not benefit the people.

“We will cancel and reject such development because in Selangor, we only accept quality development.

“Not all development brings about good, there also some development that are troublesome to the people, destroys the environment and development that pressures the people,” said Mohamed Azmin.

He said this when opening the Semenyih Chinese New Year Celebration at Kampung Baru last night.

Mohamed Azmin explained that among the developments that the state government had to reject was the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX) project as it is seen as not being the answer to traffic congestion problems.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Public Works, through the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), planned to build a 14.9 kilometre expressway linking Kinrara to Damansara.

The expressway that costs RM2.42 billion will be built by concessionaire Kidex Sdn Bhd (KIDEX).

However, the Selangor state government, on February 16, cancelled the approval for the project after KIDEX failed to meet three requirements, an independent assessment on traffic impact, social impact and environmental impact.

In addition, KIDEX also failed to disclose the concession agreement between them and the federal government, particularly involving the toll rate to be charged and the concessionaire’s profit.
