CM: DOE & LUAS ordered to form enforcement team for Sg Semenyih

SHAH ALAM, 8 Mar: The Department of Environment (DOE) and the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) have been ordered to set up enforcement teams along Sungai Semenyih.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the move was decided to address the contamination problems that often occur, affecting the people’s water resources.

“Pollution like this often happens, especially during long holidays and weekends, therefore special teams needs to be set up so that this does not recur.

“We have also decided detailed steps to ensure adequate water supply and no rationing as years before,” he told reporters.

He was asked about the steps taken by the state government to overcome the contamination problems that often occur in Sungai Semenyih around the months of February and March.

Early last week, the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant has to be temporarily shut down as there was contamination in Sungai Semenyih.

This caused water disruptions in some areas such as Petaling, Kuala Langat and Sepang.
