CM: Free Nik Nazmi immediately and unconditionally

SHAH ALAM, 8 Mar: The police should free Selangor Exco Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad immediately and unconditionally for being detained in relation to the peaceful assembly that took place in the capital yesterday.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that he condemned the arrest because the authorities should respect the Seri Setia Assemblyman and Exco by not humiliating him.

He said that the arrest was unacceptable and violates the country’s constitution.

“We do not see and legal basis for the arrest of Nik Nazmi and Saifullah Zulkifli, and the others, because it was just politically motivated,” said Mohamed Azmin in a press statement.

He said that if the police intends to take his statement, Nik Nazmi should not be held overnight because he voluntarily went to the police station and gave his cooperation.

“The central government and the police must respect the people’s right to assemble peacefully,” he said.
