SHAH ALAM, 12 Mar: The dengue cases in Selangor continued to record a decline in the past four consecutive weeks, said Health Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi.
She said that this positive development is due to a large-scale movement to prevent dengue in the district of Petaling on February 7 and 8.
“Petaling is the district with the highest number of cases. If we can reduce it there, then the overall number of dengue cases will also decrease.
“Thank God, the move bore fruit because at the end of January there were over 1,000 cases, but it fell to 917 cases in February and dropped again earlier this month,” she said during a press conference.
To date, there have been 16,354 dengue cases reported in Selangor with 46 deaths compared to 54,066 cases throughout 2014 with 77 deaths.
Earlier, she launched the Jom Sihat (Let’s get Healthy) SUK Selangor and the Jom Minum Air Selangor (Let’s Drink Water Selangor) at the SUK Building today.
At the same time Daroyah hopes that the Shah Alam hospital will start operations to overcome congestion of patients at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.
“Prior to this, the hospital was reported to open in October 2014, however it was postponed to this year. But until now, we do not know the exact date,”she said.
