Defeats Sarawak, Selangor brilliant on home ground

SHAH ALAM, 15 Mar: After defeating PDRM 4-1 last week, Selangor once again rose on home ground by defeating Sarawak 2-0 during the match at the Shah Alam Stadium last night.

The goals by Afiq Azmi and Fittri Shazwan Raduwan last night were enough to give the first three points to Selangor at home this season.

As early as the fourth minute, the Sarawak coach, Robert Alberts, had to remove their import defender, Ronald Hikspoors, who injured his knee in an attempt to prevent Andik Vermansah’s advance, thus bringing in A.Varathan.

Selangor received its first goal in the 10th minute when a corner strike by Hazwan Bakri was head-butted by import player Robert Cornthwaite to the middle, making it easy for Afiq to kick the ball directly into Sarawak’s goal.

Sarawak tried to rise up by rocking Selangor’s goal in the 21st minute, but the goal was cancelled by the referee because Sarawak’s import attacker, Ryan Griffiths fouled Selangor’s right defence, Azrif Nasrulhaq Badrul Hisham.

During the first half injury, the Selangor coach, Mehmet Durakovic decided to replace Andik, who injured his hamstring, by entering Fitrri Shazwan.

In the second half, Selangor once again managed to rock Sarawak’s goal in the 53rd minute, but the goal was dismissed by the referee because it was off-side.

Several interesting attempts happened after that before the second goal in the 77th minute due to a clear path by Hazwan managed to allow Fitrri Shazwan to strike another goal.

After five matches, Selangor is now ranked third with eight points collected, the same as Perak, Johor Darul Ta’zim and Terengganu, but is separated by goal differences while Felda United remains at the top with 11 points, followed by PDRM at second place with nine points.

For the sixth match of the Super League, Selangor is expected to meet Sime Darby at the Shah Alam Stadium on April 4.
