CM: 60% target for public transport use to avoid traffic congestion

SHAH ALAM, 22 Mar: At least 60 percent is being targeted for public transport services, which will be the access to the people to go to any area.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the policy is to integrate the construction of houses with an efficient transport system for the well-being of the people.

“The construction of highways do not necessarily solve it (traffic problems), instead serious attention is needed to improve public transport so that it is more efficient,” said Mohamed Azmin.

He said this during a press conference after launching the Selangorku Homes in Bandar Rimbayu, Telok Panglima Garang, near here today.

Also present was the Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, and the Chief Executive Officer of IJM Land, Datuk Soam Heng Choon.

Mohamed Azmin said that the target of 40:60 for public transport should be revamped for public amenities and the solution to traffic congestion problems.

“The state governments a rate of 40 percent for public transport services to be increased to 60 percent,” he added.
