PETALING JAYA, 25 Mar: A target of 25 percent has been set by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) for the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in all buildings owned by them within a period of five years.
The Acting Mayor, Puasa Md Taib, said that more than 1,000 people are expected to attend the Earth Hour campaign which will be held at the Boulevard, Section 52 City Centre, Petaling Jaya, on March 28, starting at 8 pm.
The inaugural programme organised by MBPJ is in support of the Earth hour campaign organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) every year since 2007.
“This campaign aims to raise awareness among the world community on the importance in preserving the environment from global warming by switching off lights for a hour starting at 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
He said this in a speech delivered by his representative, MBPJ Council Member Peter Chong, today.
He said in conjunction with the campaign, MBPJ is urging all buildings in Petaling Jaya to turn off their lights for one hour.
All organisations and individuals are asked to state their pledge at wwf.org.my.
Residents are also asked to vote Petaling Jaya in the ‘We Love Cities’ campaign at www.welovecities.org/petalingjaya when Petaling Jaya was selected among 47 cities across the world to participate in ‘The Most Lovable Sustainable City’ where nominations will close on March 27.
