SHAH ALAM, 1 Apr: The impact of the goods and services tax (GST), which starts today, was actually felt since a week ago when many people panicked and spent to avoid paying the charge and increase of prices.

“This was evident when they shared pictures of receipts on social sites and indeed, it had an impact on the people,” said the Selangor PAS Commissioner.

Ng Suee Lim (DAP-Sekinchan) is of the opinion that the GST will follow the people at all times, regardless of who they are.

“It is a day of misery for the people. The days ahead will continue to plague the people with pressures of life through the six percent tax.

“If it is only possible for the government to withdraw the GST so that the people can live in peace,” he told Selangor Kini.

Dr Idris Ahmad (PKR-Ijok), who is experienced as a doctor, is also concerned with the implementation of the GST which will cause the prices of important medicine to increase, thus burdening the low income earners.

Meanwhile, Yaakob Sapari (PKR-Kota Anggerik) described today as the most unfortunate day for Malaysians because the people will have to pay taxes from when they are a baby until they die.
