Exco: Selangor produced ‘a team’ of coveted players

SHAH ALAM, 3 Apr: Fans of the Red Giants football team should feel proud because Selangor produced many sports stars that are coveted by other teams.

The Exco for Youth Development and Sports, Culture and Entrepreneurship Development, Amirudin Shari, said that about 11 players on the JDT and Pahang team in the Malaysia Cup Final 2014 are Selangor-born football stars.

“In the Malaysia Cup 2014 final match between JDT and Pahang, the players who come from Selangor, if put into a team, were 11 players on the field and I think this is an aspect to be proud of. We produce good athletes for the sake of sports development in Selangor,” he said when winding up the debate on the Sultan of Selangor’s speech during the 5th day of the Third Term of the 13th Selangor State Assembly (DNS), 2015, today.

Amirudin is confident that football in Selangor is able to produce new national football stars through continuous sports development.

He added that Selangor has about 60 football academies, including the one conducted by state government subsidiaries and some local authorities.

“For example, our youth team won all their matches and is at the top of the National Youth League, and we are a great team.

“Almost 40 percent of the Selangor state team comprises of those under 25 years of age like Nazmi Faiz who is a Selangor-born player who is able to compete against big name players,” added Amirudin.
