SHAH ALAM, 9 Apr: The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) adopts an open policy in debates towards enhancing the constitutional democracy system in the country.
DNS Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, said that debate topics regarding motions submitted, regardless whether it is from an Assemblyman from the government or the opposition, will be approved by the Assembly is it is reasonable and justified.
She said that the Assembly approved many motions submitted by Assemblymen from the opposition this time and it is the DNS’ open stance.
“Two out of three motions which will be debated by the Assembly today are from Barisan Nasional (BN) Assemblymen.
“If the motions are reasonable and should be debated, I will allow it. This time, motions proposed by Assemblymen from the opposition are more than from government Assemblymen.
“We welcome open discussion in this debate,” she said during a press conference at the DNS lobby today.
Hannah said that the first motion presented by Sulaiman Abdul Razak (BN-Permatang) urges the state government to give full cooperation to the federal government to continue with the construction of the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex).
She said that the second motion was filed by Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan (BN-Batang Kali) who hopes that the state government will continue discussions regarding the restructuring of the water industry with the federal government.
“It is interesting to see how the Assembly debates the motion (Kidex) so that it is approved or otherwise.
“I also allowed the second motion because the water issue needs to be debated and we will see what will be debated at the Assembly later,” she said.
Hannah said that the last motion came from Dr A Xavier Jayakumar (PKR-Sri Andalas) who criticised politically motivated claims against the Selangor Economic Advisor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
