SHAH ALAM, 16 Apr: The accusations thrown by the Wanita Umno Chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Kalil, that Permatang Pauh is not as advanced as other areas because it is represented by the Opposition Leader is not true.
The Permatang Pauh PAS Yang Dipertua, Omar Hasan, denied the statement when speaking at the PKR machinery launching ceremony at Dataran Guar Perahu yesterday.
Omar said that other constituencies dominated by BN, such as Tasek Gelugor and Kepala Batas, are not able to match the progress and development of Permatang Pauh.
He said that there are a variety of facilities and development at the constituency, including higher education institutions, hospitals, mega malls, Perda and Sunway cities and government departments.
“History proves that areas won by the opposition are more advanced in development because the government believes that BN areas will continue to receive full support from the people even without development,” he said, taken from Harakah Daily.
The Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) member said for example, the development at Kepala Batas, which was won by the former Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, for several terms is also not as developed as Permatang Pauh.
“Shahrizat’s statement was like ‘beating the daughter to vex the daughter-in-law’ because the development at both these constituencies is not comparable to Permatang Pauh as development at Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor have not been carried out despite being under BN,” he said.
