33 non-Islamic houses of worship receive RM363,700 allocation

SHAH ALAM, 17 Apr: The welfare of non-Islamic houses of worship in Selangor continues to receive attention from the state government through the provision of funds to the institutions.

Recently, the Selangor government handed over a cheque amounting to RM363,700 to 33 Chinese temples for the first phase to carry out reparation and for the welfare of the of these associations.

The cheque presentation was carried out by the Exco for Investment, IKS Industries and Trade and Transport, Datuk Teng Chang Khim, at the State Government Secretary’s Building today.

Meanwhile, Teng said that the donation was part of the annual allocation to non-Islamic houses of worship, amounting to RM6 million.

He said that the annual allocation was increased two-fold, exceeding the previous allocation of RM3 million.

“For this year, the allocation if given to houses of worship according to the percentage of the population in Selangor.

“Application must comply with the application rules by filling out the form provided and we will make a choice regarding the needs of an association,” he said.

He said that the aid offered received overwhelming response from non-Islamic houses of worship across the state due to widespread coverage in the mass media.

“However, each association is eligible to only apply once a year for assistance.

“If they want to apply again, they have to wait for the next year,” he said.
