Landslide affects 21,000 water consumers in Hulu Langat

SHAH ALAM, 23 Apr: Over 21,000 consumers in Hulu Langat are expected to experience unscheduled water disruptions and low water pressure.

The Executive Director of the the Selangor Water Supply Company’s Corporate Affairs Department, Priscilla Alfred) said that the disruption is because the operations at the Cheras Batu 11 Water Treatment Plant (WTP) had to be suspended since 9.30 this morning.

“There was a decline in the water level at Sungai Langat reaching the minimum level due to a landslide following work carried out by a third party about two kilometres from the WTP intake,” she said in a statement today.

Priscilla said that the third party reportedly burrowed back into the landslide that blocked the Sungai Langat water passage.

PNSB is also increasing the release of raw water from the dam to the river at 302.2 million litres compared to the usual 220 million litres to help speed up the flow of the river to the normal rate.

“Syabas informed that the Cheras Batu 11 WTP will resume operations at 7.00 tonight,” she said.

Over 20 areas are affected, including the Cheras Jaya industrial area, Taman Seri Sungai Long, Taman Bukit Emas, Taman Impian Indah and Taman Bukit Sungai Long.

The emergency water assistance through tankers to consumers is being provided, however priority is given for emergency usage such as deaths, hospitals, dialysis centres and welfare homes.
