SHAH ALAM, 3 May: To ensure that the quality of learning for estate workers improved, the Selangor government has taken the initiative to implement the ‘Love the National Language’ programme.
The Exco for Poverty, Caring Government and Estate Workers, V.Ganabatirau, said that it is to ensure that their knowledge in the Malay language is improved upon.
He said that although the annual allocation for estate workers is small, however he considers it as a challenge in fighting for the rights of those left behind.
“I created this programme so that they can improve their knowledge in the Malay language and emphasis is given to primary school children.
“The response received was very good and in addition we also carried out motivation classes and cheerful programmes that are suitable for them,” he told Selangor Kini.
Meanwhile, when asked about assistance to estate workers, Ganabatirau said that they will be given help in the aspect of socio-economy.
He said that most of them who had to migrate from estates find it hard to adapt to the existing development.
“Most estates have been monopolised by foreigners, causing workers to leave.
“They do not have good education and are unable to adapt to existing development. So, we are helping in terms of socio-economy and to provide them with jobs,” said the Kota Alam Shah Assemblyman.
In the 2015 BUdget, the Selangor government allocated RM500,000 to the estate workers’ community.
