Azmin: Opposition Leader appointment on May 18

SHAH ALAM, 13 May: The Opposition Leader in the Dewan Rakyat will be officially appointed on the first day of the parliamentary session on May 18.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that all parties in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) agreed to nominate the Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to replace Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Opposition Leader.

“There has yet to be a date for the Pakatan Rakyat Council meeting to take place to discuss this matter, but I believe that it will be held in the near future.

“However, all three parties have nominated the Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament to be appointed as the Opposition Leader and I think it will be done on the 18th, the first day of the parliamentary session,” said Mohamed Azmin who is also the PKR Deputy President.

He said this during a press conference after launching the “Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz” book by Dr Ali Muhammad As-Shallabi at the Concorde Hotel today.

Prior to this, Dr Wan Azizah’s name was mentioned to replace Anwar who is serving a prison sentence after being convicted in the Sodomy Defamation 2 case.

Prior to this, Dr Wan Azizah won in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election after defeating candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN), PRM and an independent candidate on May 7.
