GST: Local authorities prepared to exempt if allowed by the Federal Government

SHAH ALAM, 14 May: Some local authorities have stated their commitment to exempt the goods and services tax (GST), as intended by the Selangor government.

The Yang Dipertua of the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL), Mohd Azhar Mohamed Ali, said that they are ready to implement the policy if enforced.

“As public servants, we always abide by further instructions from the state government,” he told Selangor Kini.

Yesterday, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, urged the Federal Government to exempt the GST at all 12 local authorities in Selangor.

The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Deputy Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad, also said that they are waiting for further instructions regarding the matter.

“We cannot do anything but wait for the official notification before a decision is taken,” he said.
