Exco: Exempt all local authorities across the country from the GST

SHAH ALAM, 14 May: Government agencies should not be used as tax collection agents for the Federal Government, said the Exco for Local Government, Legalising Illegal Factories and New Village Development, Ean Yong Hian Wah.

He described the move to charge the goods and services tax (GST) at local authorities as burdening the people.

“The GST only adds grief to the people who are increasingly pressured by the cost of living.

“Moreover, government services are actually a responsibility to the people, it should not be taxed,” he told Selangor Kini.

He was commenting on the statement by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, yesterday who asked Putrajaya to exempt the GST collection for 12 local authorities in Selangor.

Ean Yong asked for a GST exemption to be given to all local authorities in Malaysia, not only in Selangor, in the interest of the people.
