SHAH ALAM, 15 May: The distribution for the RM22 million allocation for the Self-Sufficiency and Scholarship Fund has begun to prevent student dropouts from institutes of higher learning.
The Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that it involves students from the University of Selangor (Unisel) and the Selangor Islamic University College.
“We do not want student dropouts because education is a fundamental field to uphold the dignity of the nation.
“We are now in the process of improving fund distribution methods to ensure transparency so that it reaches the target.
“Distribution is made with the self-sufficiency assistance while for the scholarship fund, there will be an official launch in the near future,” he told Selangor Kini.
The Selangor government is committed to developing education with provisions of almost RM50 million, as announced in the Budget 2015.
He said that government assistance starts at the basic level through the Selangor Kindergarten Assistance Scheme (TUNAS), right up to the level of higher education institutions.
“Focus is given to all levels of education, starting from the very basic, which is the TUNAS Scheme, right through school until university,” he said.
