Change education system for progress

BANDAR BARU BANGI, 19 May: The education system needs to be changed according to the current situation for the good and progress of the people and the country.

The Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that a new drafting of the constitutional system and education administration is needed with a broad policy-making power without limitations to the federal government alone.

“We need a paradigm shift because education should be closer, first at the state level, secondly at the district level and then teachers and parents.

“This is so that they can provide feedback on school policies. Principals are authorised in administration and the appointment or firing of teachers,” he told Selangor Kini today.

He said that this system is practiced in many developed countries with the policy-making power given right down to the lower levels for an overall education progress.

“I admit that perhaps the model adopted today is relevant when we obtained independence due to the lack of specialists and facilities.

“Today, we are moving forward, so it is necessary to change the constitutional system and educational administration to be in line with the current situation,” he said.
