Kafa teacher fired, state government awaiting explanation from JAIS

SHAH ALAM, 21 May: The state government is still awaiting clarification from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) regarding the dismissal of a part-time teacher at the Kapar Town Religious Primary School, Ekhsan Bukharee Badrul Hisham.

The Exco for Religious Affairs, Malay Customs, Rural Development and Traditional Villages, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the decision for the dismissal was made by JAIS according to the jurisdiction of the department.

“We will obtain information and explanation from JAIS because currently we have only been informed that a letter was issued over the past week.

“So, we have to look at it thoroughly before any statement is issued,” he said during the Selangor Islamic Fest 2015 press conference at Yayasan Restu today.

Bukharee reportedly received a termination letter yesterday after issuing a show cause letter and attending a proceeding prior to this.

Elaborating, Yunus explained that JAIS is entitled to submit the letter according to its jurisdiction.

“He (Bukharee) is also on a temporary status and not on a contract basis. However, he can submit an appeal through proper channels, but it is up to Bukharee,” he said.

On April 8, Bukharee was prevented from entering the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) to claim the promise from the state government to increase the allowances of Kafa teachers from RM1,300 to RM1,500 a month.
