SHAH ALAM, 23 May: Selangor began cooperation with the Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) in the effort to spearhead professional and high-skills training even though is in under the jurisdiction of the federal government.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that Selangor’s determination to lead in the reform of the education system is due to industry demands that require innovative and highly-skilled labour.
“The national education system must undergo a reform process so that it is not only focused on academics alone, but also involves technical, vocational and professional fields.
“I believe that Selangor is able to produce competitive products through this partnership,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Yayasan Selangor Education Excellence Award Ceremony 2014 at the Silver Jubilee Hall today.
Also present was the General Manager of Yayasan Selangor, Ismail Idris, and the Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science and Technology and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
SHRDC has the role of providing technical and vocational training for local children to pursue their studies in innovative and high-technology fields.
Mohamed Azmin took the example of Germany’s success as the best industrial country in the world by providing special focus in technical and professional fields.
“Most of the provisions from Germany’s education sector is focused on technical and professional fields. This effort is the core to its industrialisation success.
“The economic challenge is getting tough to make Selangor remain as the most developed state and to continue to be a major contributor to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“We need to produce new products (human capital) that are competent and highly-skilled,” he said.
At the event, 196 excellent students sponsored by Yayasan Selangor received the Education Excellence Award for their outstanding achievements in their examinations.
