CM: Selangor is the largest contributor to the GDP but neglected in the RMK-11

KAJANG, 23 May: The federal government needs to be responsible and fair in returning the revenue collection they have obtained from Selangor to the people of the state.

The Chief Minister, Dato’ Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that Selangor is the largest contributor of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at 23.5 percent.

He said that the federal government’s move to not include the cities in Selangor in the 11th Malaysian Plan’s (RMK-11) Urban Competitiveness Master Plan is clearly political discrimination against the government and the people of the state.

“I looked into the RMK-11 and there is a plan, the Urban Competitiveness Master Plan, that only involves Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu while Selangor has the largest population of six million people.

“Selangor has the cities of Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam. We have large countries like Klang, Kajang and Semenyih, which are booming.

“Why are these areas not included in the plan?” said Mohamed Azmin.

He said this during the Launching and Registration Ceremony of the Gamuda Land Berhad Affordable Homes at Jade Hills today.

He said that the state government is also trying to ensure that the liveability of the areas will be improved, including building affordable homes.

He also expressed confidence that Selangor is capable of developing rapidly despite facing political discrimination from the federal government.
