70% of recipients, teenagers do not pray

AMPANG, 26 May: Over 70 percent of Zakat recipients in Selangor do not pray based on a survey conducted by the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS).

The Exco for Islamic Affairs, Malay Customs & Heritage, Rural Development and Traditional Villages, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the statistics also show that many teenagers also do not carry out the second.

“We have launched the Kaabah Kiblatku campaign. The main message is to remind the Muslim community in Selangor that prayers are mandatory to be carried out because statistics found that the percentage of people who do not pray is high.

“In developing a state, we also want to develop the community. Perhaps as a general rule, there is no accurate statistics but this is enough to illustrate how important praying is and we are carrying a symbolic message in Kaabah Kiblatku,” he said.

He said this during a press conference at Series 4/2015 of the Selangor Village Leaders Management and Leadership Course Closing Ceremony at the De Palma Hotel today.

The Kaabah Kiblatku programme was launched by Dr Ahmad Yunus at the Jamiul Ehsani Kampung Sijangkang Mosque, Kuala Langat, in conjunction with the Kampung Kesayanganku Campaign in the district on May 23.

It is to improve the accuracy of direction, especially in public focus areas, including privately owned buildings.

Dr Ahmad Yunus said that the owners of buildings, homes or societies can obtain the guide towards the right prayer direction for only RM50.
