CM: State Government Encourages Consumers to Sue Syabas


KUALA SELANGOR, 6 Jan: The Selangor State Government encourages the action of consumers experiencing water interferences in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to take legal action against Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that if Syabas is unable to manage its services, then it should return the management to the State Government.

“Syabas was given the task to serve, if we feel that the duty undertaken by Syabas in not good, we therefore have the power, as consumers, to sue them,” said Abdul Khalid.

He said this when he was met here after the Flood Relief Presentation Programme at the compound of the Chief Minister’s Office in Ijok.

He said that assets and equipment such as water pipes, are still owned by the State Government.

He said that the State Government will not provide legal services for the action so as to avoid conflict of interests.

Previously, about 100,000 consumers were affected by water interruptions due to the damage of two pump houses in Wangsa Maju and Pudu Hulu.

There are five units of Pump Houses in Wangsa Maju and investigations have revealed that water supply disruptions that have hit Gombak and Kuala Lumpur is due to the failure of the five pumps.

According to media reports, many traders and hotel owners suffered losses due to the occurrence of water supply disruptions.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s wife Puan Sri Salbiah Tunut took the opportunity to contribute school bags to children in the Ijok area.
