CM: Surau designs should have the appearance of a new image

GOMBAK, 15 June: Village suraus need require new designs to improve the discomfort of the congregation.

The proposal was expressed by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, to the Selangor Religious Department (JAIS) as many suraus in the state are in bad shape.

“It is proposed for the Director of JAIS to look into the need to rebuild these dilapidated suraus with new designs.

“The large state reserve on paper is not to be proud of, instead it should be translated and used for the people’s welfare,” he said.

He said this during the Ihya Ramadan Contribution Presentation Ceremony 2015 for Gombak at the Al-Khiriyah Mosque in Taman Seri Gombak yesterday.

At the event, 20 mosques and 59 suraus in three constituencies (Batu Caves, Gombak Setia and Hulu Kelang) received donations worth RM355,000 to empower and enlighten mosques as a spiritual place throughout the Ramadan month.
