CM: HIJRAH provisions to be increased in 2016

BESTARI JAYA, 15 June: The Selangor government intends to increase the allocation for the implementation of the HIJRAH programme, which previously amounted to RM100 million, starting next year.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this was due to the overwhelming response towards the programme since it was announced in the Selangor Budget 2015.

“Every time I go down to meet HIRAH participants, the response gets better and this shows that the Selangor government’s policy has received good and strong support from the people.

“This year, the state government has allocated RM100 million for the HIJRAH programme and when we examine the records and the response, God-willing in 2016 we will think about the need to increase allocations for this programme,” he said.

He said this at the Third Phase of the Selangor HIJRAH Funding Cheque Ceremony on June 14.

Hijrah was introduced by the Selangor government to push the poor into the middle-income group.

The programme is strengthened through the Selangor Microcredit Scheme (SkimSel) and the Urban Poor Microcredit Programme (MiMBAR).

The state government has also raised the allocation ceiling for both these funds to RM100 million compared to only RM70 million previously.
