700 gathered in front of prison to celebrate Anwar’s birthday

SHAH ALAM, 12 Aug: About 700 people gathered in front of the Sungai Buloh Prison on August 9 to celebrate the birthday of the former Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was imprisoned for the Defamation 2 case.

The 68th birthday celebration of the PKR de facto leader was joined by several Pakatan Rakyat leaders, including his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the party President.

Also present were PKR Vice Presidents, Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar, the PKR Information Chief, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, the PKR Women’s Chief, Zuraida Kamaruddin, Sim Tze Tzin, G Manivannan and Abdullah Sani.

Anwar’s daughters, Nurul Nuha, Nurul Iman and Nurul Ilham, were also present with three cakes as a symbolism of the celebration.

They sang ‘Happy Birthday’ together in front of the barbed wire fencing at the entrance of the Sungai Buloh Prison.

A total of 21 pigeons were also released as a symbolism of Anwar’s release as a political prisoner and two cakes were delivered to the Prison Officers to be presented to the former Deputy Prime Minister.

Izzah said that her father’s detention, which has now entered the 182nd day, continues to receive support not just from the people, but world leaders who have united to urge the government to release Anwar as a political prisoner unconditionally.

“We want to express our appreciation to former world leaders Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, Abdullah Gul, Al Gore, Joseph Estrada, Gordon Brown, Rashid Ganouchi ho have signed the ‘International call for justice for Anwar Ibrahim and to restore democracy in Malaysia’ petition,” she said.
