SHAH ALAM, 10 Aug: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should not be disturbed by the police in the investigation related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.
This is because intervention by certain quarters in the high-profile investigation involving the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, will certainly not yield transparent results and will compromise the integrity of the MACC itself.
The Kapar Member of Parliament, G Manivanan, said that the MACC should be given adequate space in the matter because the case involves a large sum, RM2.6 billion, and is being disputed by the people at present.
“Intervention from other quarters, such as the police,would compromise the investigation and we see this as an unwise by the authorities.
“This move is believed to protect certain parties, in addition to the immediate exchange of MACC staff, which has raised questions,” he told Selangor Kini today.
He explained that the MACC is carrying out their responsibilities entrusted by the people and the government must respect this without mixing in political matters.
He said that the cancellation of the exchange of two MACC directors, the Special Operations Division Director, Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin, and the Strategic Communications Director, Datuk Rohaizad Yaakob, to the Prime Minister’s Department is justified and appropriate.
“It is fitting that they be returned to the MACC so that they can carry out the mandate entrusted upon them,” he said.
The MACC is now conducting an investigation into the former subsidiary company of 1MDB, SRC International Sdn Bhd.
