BANTING, 1 June: The basic facilities at the Bukit Jugra Paragliding Centre need to be upgraded to meet the needs of the organisation of the extreme sport at an international level.

The President of MDKL, Mohd Azhar Mohamed Ali, hopes that the state government can consider an allocation of RM500,000 to improve the landing field, the public toilets and the rest areas.

“I have extended the upgrading of this centre to the Exco for Tourism.MDKL also proved that the organisation of this event since 2006 has managed to attract many participation from abroad, thus helping the local economy and tourism.

“The facilities are to ensure the smooth running of programmes in the future. Of course we want to uphold the image of Selangor in the eyes of participants and visitors from overseas,” he said.

He said this when met by Selangor Kini after the Closing Ceremony of the Jugra International Paragliding Accuracy Championship (JIPGAC) 2015 recently.

Jugra is the sole location in Selangor in the organising of paragliding activities and listed on the world map since MDLK organised this world class championship in 2006.

“We had to rent mobile toilets for the event this time. It should be given attention because this place is far from urban areas.

“The upgrading of the access roads to the hilltop also needs to be done. Now, we are fully reliant on the Public Works Department (JKR),” he said.

JIPGAC 2015 managed to attract the participation of 55 participants from eight countries, Vietnam, South Korea, the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Switzerland and Malaysia, and they have camped for three days since 29 May.

The event was officiated by the Exco for Tourism, Elizabeth Wong, and was also attended by the General Manager of Tourism Selangor, Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din.
