Federal Court maintains Khir Toyo’s conviction

PUTRAJAYA, 22 Sept: The Federal Court upheld the conviction of former Chief Minister of Selangor, Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, who was found guilty in obtaining two lots of land for himself and his wife and a bungalow in Section 7, Shah Alam, eight years ago.

The panel of five Federal Court judges, chaired by the Malayan Chief Judge, Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin, together with Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop, Tan Sri Hasan Lah, Tan Sri Jeffrey Tan Kok Wha and Datuk Ramly Ali, unanimously dismissed the appeal by Dr Mohamad Khir, 50.

BH Online reported through the judgement read by Kok Wha that the panel reached the decision based on a number of reasons including that the charges against Dr Mohamad Khir did not have any defects and he, as the Chief Minister, was a civil servant when the offense was committed.

Dr Mohamad Khir was accused of obtaining for him and his wife, Zahrah Kechik, 50, something valuable which is two lots of lands and a house at No 8 & 10, Jalan Suasa, Jalan Suasa 7.1L from Ditamas Sdn Bhd through its Director, Datuk Shamsuddin Hayroni.

The former Sungai Panjang Assemblyman allegedly committed the offence at the official residence of the Chief Minister of Selangor at Jalan Permata 7/1, Section 7, Shah Alam, on May 29, 2007.
