Haze: Schools to reopen on Tuesday – MOE

SHAH ALAM, 28 Sept: The school session, which was closed for a day, will be reopened on Tuesday (tomorrow) after the Air Pollution Index (API) decreased today.

The Ministry of Education (MOE), in a statement today, however reminded all state education departments and district education offices across the country to continue to monitor API readings that are issued from time to time.

According to him, if the API reading changes to unhealthy conditions at 101 – 200 or very unhealthy at 201 – 300, they can take action at their respective levels.

Action can be made based on the measures issued by the MOE to ensure the health and safety of students at schools that are in hazy areas that are considered critical.

Unhealthy air since Sunday saw the Ministry of Education instructing all schools in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Sri Aman, Kuching and Samarahan in Sarawak to be closed.

Also taking the same step are several Public Institutions of Higher Learning like the Mara University of Technology (UiTM) and the University of Selangor (UNISEL) after the announcement of the lecture suspension on Monday.

Previously, the results of ongoing monitoring across the country found that several states and areas recorded very unhealthy API readings (201 – 300) and unhealthy API readings (101 – 200).

Some places in Selangor like Shah Alam, Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur, port Klang, Petaling Jaya and Putrajaya are areas that recorded very unhealthy API readings.

Meanwhile, all schools in Johor and Malacca will be closed on Tuesday (29 September).
